Lil' Black Mountain

So, I discovered an area about 5 miles from my house called Black Mountain open Space Park.  I've known about this one particular trailhead for quite sometime, but due to what some may call Steve being Steve, i forgot about it.

Thankfully, my memory wad jarred last week when I decided to stop there after work and put my new New Balance MT110 to the test.  What a great run this is.  The Nighthawk trail is unforgiving from the start, and there is absolutely no flat sections at the start.  It just goes up for about 1 mile then you have options on different side trails.  The trails are mostly very loose rock and dirt which makes them fairly technical.  The Nighthawk continues up for a while then intersects a fire road which leads you to the summit.

The side trails go into the canyons between all the peaks in the area, and they are beautiful.  It was great to get away from the sounds of San Diego until I realized that some of the sounds were swarms of bees hanging out in the blooming bushes (not good, must run faster).

All in all, I feel blessed to have such a great trail system that has easily 20+miles of trails.  It is so close to my house, that I was able to leave work, get a summit in, and pick up my daughter on time from daycare.  I would get her earlier, but she is napping.

I will have reports on all the side trails and further out trails as I run and experience them.

Until later Happy Trails

Hurt Again

It has been a frustrating few weeks.  I pulled my right calf about three weeks ago.  I was good and let it rest for about a week and a half.  Unfortunately, i took my legs out for a test run on Friday, and I pulled my left calf.  Weird that it was the opposite one.  Well, I went out and bought a compression sleeve and am giving it plenty of ice, but I know my dog and myself are getting very antsy since all of the creeks, lakes, and ponds are full from all the awesome rain we have received.  I will have more updates and hopefully pics tomorrow.

Happy Trails/Happy Running,

First Blog

Good evening people,

Since this is my first blog, I will make it short.  I am still recovering from a nasty left calf sprain.  The good news is that I just acquired a new pair of New Balance MT101 and a pair of Brooks Green Silence.  So far they have been outstanding.  I have been running in ASICS Nimbus, but have continuously gotten pain under my three middle toes.  This hasn't happened so far with these so called "Minimus shoes"  I will have a full report later.

Happy Trails/Happy Running,

Steve
